Key differences

2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD

A good fit for drivers who manage vehicle functions through a large screen and app and frequently use storage space. Premium RWD includes ventilated, power-adjustable front seats. Learning the control locations and screen menus takes some adjustment.

2027 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Long Range Modern 2WD

A separate instrument panel, column shifter and regenerative-braking paddles provide controls similar to conventional cars. The selected Long Range model with 19-inch wheels has a Korean certified range of 485km. Ventilated and power-adjustable seats cost extra on Modern.

Price and standard conveniences

The current specification list includes ventilated, power-adjustable front seats for Premium RWD. Check Tesla's order screen for the price of your selected configuration.

Modern's base price is KRW 52,900,000. Front heated seats are standard, but ventilation and power adjustment are part of the optional Comfort package, so budget using a quote with the conveniences you need.

If ventilated and power-adjustable seats are essential, the decision should use the total purchase amount including that equipment, rather than just the base price.

Range on one charge

The current Korean specification sheet lists a 400km certified range and combined efficiency of 5.6km/kWh for Premium RWD. This pairing compares it with an IONIQ 5 Long Range with a different battery capacity.

The 84kWh Long Range with 19-inch wheels has a certified range of 485km and combined efficiency of 5.2km/kWh. Adding the built-in camera changes the certified range to 478km.

In the reference configurations, IONIQ 5's certified range is 85km longer. Actual range varies with speed, temperature and climate-control use.

Controls while driving

Vehicles delivered in Korea in 2026 use a 16-inch center screen. MotorTrend's comparison team found that screen-concentrated controls demand attention until they become familiar.

It separates the 12.3-inch instrument panel from the 12.3-inch navigation screen, and provides a column shifter and regenerative-braking paddles. CarPlay and Android Auto phone projection are also supported.

Model Y suits a preference for consolidating functions in a screen and app; IONIQ 5 suits a preference for separate instruments and controls within reach.

Passengers and luggage

The US comparison team highlighted the large front trunk and storage below the rear cargo floor. They considered these useful for separating luggage from the passenger space.

Modern's second row slides, reclines and folds 60:40. Interior V2L is also standard, useful for powering electrical devices while parked.

Model Y differs in how it uses multiple storage compartments; IONIQ 5 offers adjustable second-row positioning and interior power use.

Ride and driving character

MotorTrend found its US Long Range AWD test car more comfortable than the old model, but still firm with sensitive steering responses.

In the same comparison, the US Limited AWD received positive ratings for comfort, quietness and driving balance. Its drivetrain and tires differ from the Korean Modern, so an identical experience cannot be assumed.

The overseas direct comparison emphasizes Model Y's agility and IONIQ 5's comfort. Ride quality in the Korean purchase trims may differ from those assessments.

Battery and drivetrain warranties

Premium RWD's battery and drive-unit warranty lasts 8 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first, with a 70% battery-capacity retention threshold. The basic vehicle warranty is 4 years or 80,000km.

The high-voltage battery is covered for 10 years or 200,000km, and dedicated EV components for 10 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first. Coverage and warranty terms differ by component.

For long-term ownership, IONIQ 5's longer battery-warranty period and distance may be reasons to choose it.
