What we’re comparing
For current iPhone users considering their next phone in Japan. Official transfer guidance checked September 12, 2026; the local discussion began July 22. No matched model-price or performance test.
Both routes have a way to move data
Apple’s Quick Start helps set up a new iPhone from an existing one. Google’s Android Switch supports moving contacts and photos from iPhone to Android. Data transfer itself is therefore not an iPhone-only benefit. The two methods are not identical: supported devices, connection method and the data involved still matter. Apple’s guide also distinguishes downloading from iCloud from directly transferring between devices; neither method promises a universal completion time. The phone price is only part of the decision
Staying in the same system avoids changing the operating-system family, but it is not a guarantee that every setting will look identical. Switching creates a different set of device choices, not an automatic saving. A cheaper offer is meaningful only after comparing the actual models, storage, condition and purchase terms. Apps deserve separate attention. Google directs users to app developers about purchases made on iPhone and says existing subscriptions remain active under their existing billing arrangements. Replacing a phone does not itself cancel a subscription. Copying files and continuing a paid service are different tasks. [2]
A July discussion, not a September popularity surge
A July 22 Girls Channel thread asks whether to move from iPhone to Android because of cost and unfamiliar controls. Its page showed 132 comments when checked September 12; the last displayed comment was July 27. Those dates matter. The thread shows a concrete Japanese consumer question within the recent two-month window, not a new September rush to Android. Our comparison explains that choice using current official guidance. It does not treat forum participants as a national sample, rank all Android phones against all iPhones, or declare one route easier for everybody. [3]

Neither transfer guide proves that every account, app purchase or setting carries over. Ease of use and total cost depend on the particular devices and services, not just the operating-system name.
