The US reference prices changed

Nintendo raised the US Switch 2 price from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, 2026. Valve's May update lists Steam Deck OLED at $789 for 512GB and $949 for 1TB. Short retailer deals are separate from these reference prices.

The machines differ more than the screens

Switch 2 links handheld and TV play with a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD, detachable Joy-Con 2 and an included dock. Steam Deck OLED is a portable PC with a 7.4-inch 1280×800 HDR OLED, trackpads and SteamOS; its dock is separate.

One game cannot settle the hardware

An August 27 Elden Ring comparison post drew 211 comments, but one game and scene cannot represent total performance. Nintendo's catalog on Switch 2 and PC-game compatibility on Steam Deck are the more durable divide.
